Offshore DP Capability, Thruster Failure & Station-Keeping Margin Tool

Screen modeled station-keeping capability across 360° of environmental approach. Compare intact and degraded thrust, identify constrained headings and test power-group or individual-thruster failures. This is a preliminary analytical screen, not a vessel-certified DP capability plot or consequence analysis.

Fast directional capability screen: 10 inputsCompare operator-entered longitudinal and transverse thrust against approximate wind/current loads. The preliminary polar chart omits yaw balance, thruster interactions and power networks. Enter after-failure retained thrust as an explicit scenario, not a DP-class assumption.

Vessel & Operating Condition

Static 3-DOF planning modelIncludes surge/sway/yaw allocation using entered thruster position and directional constraints. Effective thrust uses your loss inputs and a conservative power-group cap. No dynamics, true wave drift, PMS simulation, tunnel interaction or DP manufacturer logic are reproduced.
Operational boundary: A plotted margin is not operational authorization, a DP class determination or an ASOG green status. Follow the approved vessel-specific DP capability plots, DP FMEA/WCFDI, DPVAD, ASOG/CAM, real-time consequence analysis, operating procedures and project limits. The model cannot predict excursion following a failure.

Thruster & Power Assignment Register

Enter rated static thrust, rated power, longitudinal location (+forward / −aft), transverse location (+starboard / −port), physical type and assigned power group. Failed or unverified thrusters contribute zero verified capacity. A group failure removes its assigned thrusters and power.

FMEA, CAM / ASOG & Equipment Verification Register

Critical outstanding checks are reported independently of force and power margins. An unchecked control never turns into a verified DP redundancy claim merely because the calculation passes.
