Ro-Ro Vehicle Deck Fire Water Demand, Drainage & Stability Tool

MSC.1/Circ.1430/Rev.3 • SOLAS II-2/20 • MSC.1/Circ.1320 • 125% Drainage • Free Surface • Residual GM • 2026 Detection & Video

Ro-Ro Vehicle Deck Fire Water Demand, Drainage & Stability Tool

Size the fire-water problem and the drainage/stability problem together. Calculate prescriptive vehicle-deck water demand, installed-pump margin, the 125% drainage screen, standing-water accumulation, free-surface penalty and residual GM, then use Advanced for multiple protected decks, gravity scuppers, finite water endurance, added-water KG, heel, 2026 fire-detection/video readiness and retrofit cost.

Protected Deck Quick Screen

Simple supports the prescriptive MSC.1/Circ.1430/Rev.3 wet, dry/pre-action and deluge density bands up to 10 m free height. Custom or performance-based systems belong in Advanced.

Vessel & Fire-Protection Basis

Weather-deck boundary: ro-ro passenger weather decks have separate 2026 SOLAS/FSS monitor requirements. This calculator is focused on vehicle, ro-ro and special-category protected spaces and does not approve weather-deck monitor layout.

Protected Deck / Hydraulic Scenario Register

Each row is an independent protected deck or approved hydraulic scenario. The highest-demand row controls the spray-pump screen. For prescriptive deluge rows the design area automatically represents two adjacent 20 m longitudinal sections, limited by the actual row area.

125% screen: relevant SOLAS/MSC.1/Circ.1320 arrangements size drainage to remove at least 125% of the fixed water-system pump flow plus the required fire-hose flow. Final approval also checks drain distribution by side, bilge wells, valve operation and anti-blockage arrangements.

Retrofit / Survey Cost Context

Fire-protection / stability screening only: this tool is not a class-approved hydraulic calculation, nozzle layout, FSS Code type approval, SOLAS survey, MSC.1/Circ.1430/Rev.3 fire-test approval, MSC.1/Circ.1320 drainage design, intact/damage stability calculation or authorization to alter vehicle-deck fire systems. Performance-based systems must use their approved nozzle characteristics, coverage, pressure and water-delivery rate. Final drainage and stability effects must be verified against approved ship drawings and stability information.
