Marine Main Engine Crankshaft Deflection, Main Bearing Alignment & Journal Wear Tool

Screen crankshaft geometry and main-bearing condition using measured web deflections, bearing offsets/clearances and journal diameters. Advanced mode combines multiple crank throws, bearing positions and journal measurements into one alignment and wear condition map while keeping every acceptance limit OEM/user-entered.

Enter readings consistently from the same measurement procedure and compare with the maker baseline/limit. This tool screens condition; it does not prescribe bearing-height corrections.

Crank Web Deflection Register

Enter one consistent set of readings per crank throw. The tool calculates bottom average, vertical and horizontal indices, full reading spread and change from the entered baseline spread. It does not convert those readings into bearing corrections.

Main Bearing Alignment & Condition Register

Bearing vertical offset is a measured deviation from the selected reference/baseline, not a calculated correction. Clearance and temperature limits are user-entered because engine-specific values vary.

Six diameter readings are used to estimate maximum wear, ovality and axial taper. Ridge-wear screening is kept separate because contact-pattern assessment and repair criteria are OEM-specific.

Measurement Quality Checks

Engineering boundary: crankshaft deflection is an alignment indicator, not a bearing-adjustment instruction. Bearing offsets, web deflections, journal wear, hull deflection, thermal growth and coupling/shaft-line loads interact. Confirm corrective work against the engine maker's procedure, approved alignment analysis and class/repair requirements.
