2026 transition context: Revised IMO ECDIS performance standards apply to new S-100 ECDIS installations from 1 January 2026 on a voluntary basis and to all new ECDIS installations from 1 January 2029. The IHO S-100 framework and Phase 1 product specifications entered operational use in 2026. During the transition, S-57 and S-101 coverage is expected to coexist so existing ECDIS that are not technically ready for S-101 can continue to be supported under the applicable rules.
