FuelEU Default vs Actual Cslip, EU ETS CH₄ Value, ELM, Methane Slip File, Verification & Payback

FuelEU Methane Slip Measurement ROI, Engine-Load Monitoring & Actual Cslip Value Tool

Decide whether paying for methane-slip measurement and continuous engine-load monitoring is worth more than accepting the FuelEU default factor. Compare default and measured well-to-wake intensity, quantify the FuelEU compliance-balance swing, calculate EU ETS methane allowance savings, risk-adjust the result for verifier acceptance, build the Methane Slip File investment case, project tightening FuelEU limits, and find the measured Cslip needed to hit a target payback.

Engine, Fuel & Regulatory Basis

FuelEU Annex II assigns different default Cslip values to LNG engine classes. The measured value in this tool is an investment assumption until the measurement, load-monitoring, documentation and verification pathway has been completed and accepted for the applicable EU reporting framework.

DNV has cited slow-speed LNG Otto engines achieving values as low as 0.7% versus the 1.7% standard factor. Use your engine-specific measurement expectation.

Engine-Load / Methane-Slip Curve

The Commission's interim FuelEU pathway uses continuous engine-load monitoring and emission curves derived from accepted measurements. Use fuel share rather than simple time share when possible. The weighted actual Cslip below replaces the simple measured-factor input in Advanced mode.

FuelEU / MRV Verification Readiness

Regulatory and investment screening only: This tool does not determine whether a measured methane-slip factor will be accepted by a FuelEU verifier, competent authority, EU MRV verifier or emissions-trading authority. It is not an accredited emissions test, CEMS certification, Methane Slip File, FuelEU verification report, monitoring-plan amendment or legal interpretation. Commission guidance issued in October 2025 was explicitly interim. IMO adopted MEPC.414(84), MEPC.415(84) and MEPC.416(84) in 2026; confirm how current international methods are accepted under the EU framework before relying on savings.
