Estimate coating cost per square meter, recoating frequency, allocated
drydock expense, spot-repair cost, lifecycle cash flow, present-value
cost and annualized coating cost. Advanced mode compares two coating
systems and estimates avoided recoatings, drydock days, lifecycle
savings and the break-even price of the longer-life coating.

Vessel & Lifecycle Basis
Use underwater hull area, topside area, tank area or any other coating
surface being evaluated. The tool is area-based and does not assume a
particular coating chemistry or vessel type.

Drydock Cost Allocation
Use the allocation percentage to assign only the portion of a docking
event that you consider economically attributable to the coating work.
Set it to 0% when recoating is assumed to occur inside an already
scheduled docking with no incremental dock cost.

Model approach:
full coating-event cost equals coated area × surface-preparation,
material, application and access/QA cost per m², plus the entered
share of drydock fixed cost, daily dock cost and other event cost.
Recoating events occur at the entered coating service-life interval
while the event year remains inside the analysis horizon. Annual spot
repair is excluded in years when a full recoating event occurs.
Future costs are escalated at the entered cost-escalation rate and
discounted to present value. Equivalent annual cost converts lifecycle
NPV into a level annual amount over the analysis horizon.
Commercial and maintenance planning estimate only.
Actual coating life and recoating cost depend on coating system, surface
condition, steel preparation standard, application quality, dry-film
thickness, curing conditions, water chemistry, salinity, temperature,
vessel speed, abrasion, cargo exposure, cathodic protection, fouling,
mechanical damage, cleaning practice, operating profile and inspection
results. A stated coating service life is not a guaranteed maintenance
interval. Drydock costs can be shared with surveys, propulsion work,
steel renewal and other maintenance, so only the economically attributable
portion should be entered. This tool does not estimate fuel savings from
hull roughness or antifouling performance. Use coating-manufacturer data,
vessel inspection history, shipyard quotations and approved maintenance
plans for final procurement and drydock decisions.
