Transocean has added approximately $2 billion in firm drilling commitments since its August 2026 fleet update, lifting its contract backlog to about $8 billion as of November 2. The nine new fixtures carry a weighted average dayrate of approximately $423,000, with major assignments spanning the U.S. Gulf, Equatorial Guinea, India and Norway. Deepwater Conqueror secured a five-well Gulf contract at $499,000 per day, Deepwater Proteus received a ten-well program at $465,000 per day, and Dhirubhai Deepwater KG2 was awarded a two-year ONGC commitment in India at $389,000 per day. The backlog also includes approximately $1 billion from a previously announced Equinor agreement that received final approval in September.

The financial picture behind the awards
Recognized revenue for July–September 2026, not future backlog.
Actual revenue relative to maximum contract revenue for the measurement period.
Companywide adjusted measure, with a reported 33.4% margin.
Management's forward contract coverage measure, not 95% fleet utilization.
The contractual rate is the starting point. Downtime, unbillable periods, rig operating costs, maintenance, financing expenses and revenue-efficiency adjustments determine actual financial performance.
Transocean's estimated average contracted ultra-deepwater rate moves from $454,000 in Q4 2026 to $443,000 in Q3 2027. That comparison describes the booked fleet mix, not all new market tenders.

Calculation methodology
Nominal revenue = dayrate × contract operating days. Modeled earned revenue = dayrate × (operating days − unbillable days) × revenue efficiency. The model treats the selected unbillable days as an additional loss and applies the efficiency adjustment to remaining days. This differs from Transocean's actual fleetwide revenue-efficiency definition and must not be treated as a reconciliation of company earnings.
Direct costs = daily operating expense × (contract days + additional preparation days) + one-time preparation expense. Operating contribution = earned revenue − direct costs. All selected costs are hypothetical. If applicable, any customer compensation for mobilization or preparation is excluded.
Break-even dayrate = direct costs ÷ [(contract days − unbillable days) × efficiency]. Supplier expenditure = daily operating expenses × total modeled calendar days × assumed external supplier share.
The default contract rates and estimated days are based on Transocean's November 2 fleet schedule and its October 9 and October 19 announcements. The approximately 700-day Proteus and 450-day Conqueror schedules are company disclosures. Other approximate program lengths are illustrative or based on separately reported estimates.
Limitations: Actual contract dayrates, revenue realization, contract extensions and drilling costs may differ. The model excludes corporate expenses, debt service, taxation, depreciation, vessel capital expenditure, contract termination terms and any separate cost reimbursements. Supplier spending outputs are hypothetical market-exposure scenarios, not confirmed purchase orders. Negative contributions do not establish that any real contract is loss-making.
