Ship Lay-Up, Preservation, Reactivation & Return-to-Service Economics Tool

Compare continued trading, hot lay-up and cold lay-up on the same economic horizon. Model daily cash burn, preservation and reactivation spending, charter-opportunity delay, technical readiness and the day a lay-up strategy actually pays back.

Fast lay-up decision · 12 inputsCompare your existing trading cash margin with two user-priced lay-up choices, including setup, recommissioning and missed future earnings. All figures are illustrative until checked with your class, flag, managers and insurers.
Fleet preservation and market-return deskUse the fleet and site fields below, then extend them with six editable registers. The selected fleet plan is separate from the best modeled option for each vessel. All monetary values are USD.
Decision boundary: Cash and earnings forecasts are user-entered scenarios, not vessel valuations or charter offers. A lay-up mode is not a class/flag approval, permission to reduce crew, insurance confirmation or safe-return certificate. Modeled reactivation days do not replace class surveys, flag-state permissions, OEM work, safe manning, statutory certificates or trials. Insurance returns are never presumed.

Fleet Vessels & Assigned Lay-Up Plans

One row per vessel. “Trade” provides the comparison baseline. Hot/cold base daily budgets exclude the separately entered site rate. Return margin is an explicitly assumed future earning opportunity, used only for reactivation downtime, not counted as a signed charter.

Lay-Up Location & Site Services

Daily site charges are additive to each vessel's hot/cold running costs. A pending site approval blocks the assigned lay-up plan from being marked review-cleared. Keys are stable even if rows are removed.

Preservation, Maintenance & Reactivation Packages

These cost lines are additive to the vessel base setup/restart allowances. Preparation and restart tasks run in parallel inside each phase; the maximum entered task duration is added to the base reactivation allowance for restart packages. Stage “During” is a one-time allowance.

Additional Cash Costs & Insurance Credits

Positive amounts are expenses, negative amounts are credits only where reasonably documented. Recurring daily charges apply over the full lay-up horizon. Credits are conditional scenario inputs; do not enter an assumed insurance premium return as verified cash unless agreed by the insurer.

Operational, Preservation & Recommissioning Risks

Expected loss uses probability × (cash impact + extra days × positive future contribution). Worst-case exposure assumes the full listed impact, but is not treated as a proven outcome. Closed risks contribute zero.

Class, Flag, Insurance & Release Readiness

Critical outstanding checks are review holds, not automated compliance decisions. An item marked verified means only that the user has entered that status. Evidence references stay in local exports but are not sent to hidden Tool Data.
