Maritime Counterparty Credit, Charter Hire Default, Payment Security & Recovery Exposure Tool

Charter Risk · Receivables · Security Instruments · Recovery Economics

Maritime Counterparty Credit, Charter Hire Default, Payment Security & Recovery Exposure Tool

Stress a charterer's failure to remit hire, separate accrued unpaid invoices from prospective earnings loss, and compare deposits, bank guarantees, parent support and recovery timing. Test counterparty concentration before agreeing new credit exposure.

Quick default exposure screen · 12 inputsStress non-payment of future hire instalments from assessment day zero until the selected default date, on top of the separately entered opening arrears. No automatic legal recovery is assumed.
Fleet counterparty & charter receivables workbenchEnter a default scenario for all active contracts. The model generates installments from charter start to the stress date; listed scheduled invoices override their matching dates, while unlisted payments use the entered remittance assumption. Use the six editable registers below.
Contract and credit boundary: This tool does not determine lawful withdrawal, notice/grace-period compliance, lien rights, payment set-off, insolvency priority, enforceability of security, damages, sanctions clearance or actual creditworthiness. Future hire shortfalls are an economic scenario, not a legally recoverable damages award. Independent legal, credit and contract review is required. Day values are calendar-day planning offsets, not banking-day legal deadlines.

1. Counterparty Credit & Concentration Register

Use descriptive internal labels only. Credit bands and verification statuses are user judgments; this tool does not fetch or assign external ratings. Reference IDs remain fixed when other entries are removed.

2. Time-Charter & Hire Schedule Register

Model one vessel and charter per row. Opening arrears are separate from generated installments. The last installment is prorated to charter end. Unpaid future instalments are stress assumptions, not verified debts before they fall due.

3. Hire Invoices & Remittances

Scheduled: exactly one entry per charter and due day overrides the projected installment for that day. Additional: an extra already-invoiced sum, such as an adjustment, never the same scheduled hire twice. Received amounts reduce exposure.

4. Deposits, Guarantees & Payment Security

Only verified, in-term instruments enter the base recovery scenario. Face values are allocated once against accrued debt, in deposit / LC / bank / parent priority. Haircuts estimate realization; pending, expired or overlapping faces are disclosed separately.

5. Recovery, Redelivery & Enforcement Costs

Use incremental costs only. Additional received cash is credited after modeled security to prevent double counting; do not re-enter a security payout here. Economic shortfall from lost hire is modeled independently using idle days and the alternative rate.

6. Contractual, Credit & Collection Review Holds

Critical unresolved items are prominently flagged. A green planning status does not authorize withdrawal or prove that a guarantee can be called.
