A suspected pirate hijacking involving the 24,073-dwt Glamor was reported in the Gulf of Aden on September 10 after the vessel was approached by an unidentified skiff approximately 98 nautical miles southwest of Al Mukalla, Yemen. UK Maritime Trade Operations classified the initial event as suspicious activity and said the ship's company security officer reported the approach, while subsequent vessel-tracking reporting identified Glamor and described the incident as a suspected hijacking after the vessel stopped. AIS and vessel databases identify the 1998-built, St. Vincent and the Grenadines-flagged ship as a bulk/general cargo vessel of about 154 meters, with recent voyage data showing it sailing from Salalah toward Djibouti. At the time of publication, UKMTO had not publicly issued a follow-up confirming that armed persons boarded or took control of the ship, and no verified crew-status information had been released. The incident comes during a renewed wave of Somali piracy across the Gulf of Aden and waters off Somalia, with the IMO saying on August 24 that six vessels and more than 90 seafarers were then being held, while subsequent reporting counted eight hijackings since April.

Glamor SUSPECTED HIJACKING 10 Sep. 2026 Official UKMTO classification remained suspicious activity at the latest verified update. Approximately 98 NM southwest of Al Mukalla, Yemen, in the Gulf of Aden. Company security officer reported an unidentified skiff approaching the cargo vessel. Subsequent vessel reporting said Glamor stopped and described a suspected hijacking. Boarding, pirate control and crew condition had not been publicly confirmed by UKMTO at the time of publication. The incident extends the pattern of suspicious approaches and successful seizures occurring well offshore in the Gulf of Aden.
Seamull / Sibu 1 HIJACKED 20 Aug. 2026 Approximately 136 NM east of Al Mukalla, Yemen. Six armed persons boarded the tanker and took control while it was transiting west through the Gulf of Aden. Vessel was redirected toward Somalia. Reports identified 20 crew members, including 16 Indian nationals. A successful seizure more than 100 NM from Yemen demonstrated the pirates' ability to operate across a wide Gulf of Aden area.
Lutuf HIJACKED 17 Aug. 2026 Off northeastern Somalia. Eight armed Somali pirates seized the cargo vessel. Reporting said the ship was carrying weapons, communications equipment and satellite equipment. Turkish and Somali forces later reported freeing the vessel following a multi-day operation. The incident showed that pirate activity was continuing on both the Somali side and farther north into the Gulf of Aden.
Golden Arsenal LIBERATED 1 Jul. 2026 Approximately 110 NM northeast of Bosaso, Somalia. Armed attackers reportedly used assault rifles and RPGs against the bulk carrier. EUNAVFOR Operation Atalanta coordinated the multinational response and confirmed that the vessel was safe and resumed navigation. The attack involved heavier weapons than a simple opportunistic skiff approach and triggered multinational naval coordination.
Earlier 2026 Captures MULTIPLE VESSELS Apr. - Jul. Northern Somalia, Gulf of Aden and waters off Yemen. EUNAVFOR identified Honour 25, Sward, Eureka and Asana among vessels caught in the renewed piracy campaign. By July 29, EUNAVFOR listed four continuing piracy cases involving these ships. Cargoes ranged from petroleum products to fertilizer, showing that attackers were not focused on a single vessel or cargo segment.
IMO Regional Alert 24 AUG. ASSESSMENT 6 Ships Held Gulf of Aden and surrounding waters. IMO called for urgent international action following the renewed sequence of hijackings. More than 90 seafarers were reported held captive when the IMO issued its August 24 statement. The IMO described piracy as having resumed in the Gulf of Aden and warned against allowing the resurgence to continue.
U.S. MARAD Threat Baseline 2026 ADVISORY Threat Increased Gulf of Aden, Arabian Sea and Indian Ocean. MARAD recorded four hijackings and 17 boarding or armed-robbery incidents from March through the period covered by its advisory. Sixteen attacks involving firearms were recorded between March and July 2026. The U.S. advisory states that piracy remains a general threat to commercial vessels operating across the region.
