Ammonia Bunkering Transfer, Toxic Release, Ventilation, ESD/ERS & Safety Zone Tool

MSC.1/Circ.1687 • Ammonia Transfer • Tank Fill • ESD / ERS • 110 / 220 ppm • Ventilation • Toxic Area • Hose Integrity

Ammonia Bunkering Transfer, Toxic Release, Ventilation, ESD/ERS & Safety Zone Tool

Turn an ammonia bunker plan into a fast transfer-safety screen, then use Advanced for line hydraulics, hose pressure, ESD/ERS residual release, vapour-equivalent source, ventilation dilution, detector actions, toxic-area clearance, bunkering time and retrofit cost. Dispersion distances must come from approved project analysis, not this calculator.

Need much more depth? Click Advanced above.Advanced adds Darcy pressure drop, hose burst/test status, detailed ESD valve closure, ERS trapped-liquid release, ammonia vapour-equivalent screening, enclosed/semi-enclosed ventilation, detector logic, PRV/vent toxic areas, bunkering time and five-year system economics.

Current IMO toxic-area screen: open-deck areas within 10 m of ammonia flanges, valves and other potential leakage sources are toxic areas. Tank PRV and other fuel-gas vent outlets use B or 25 m, whichever is less. Approved dispersion analysis must also demonstrate that concentrations above 220 ppm do not reach protected non-toxic openings/spaces.

2026 Ammonia Bunkering Readiness

Engineering / toxic-release screening only: this tool is not an approved ammonia bunkering standard, HAZID/HAZOP, QRA, CFD dispersion model, transient surge calculation, ERS certification, functional-safety assessment, toxic-exposure model, emergency-response plan or port authorization. The ventilation model is deliberately well-mixed and must not be used to establish a personnel exclusion distance. Use Administration/class/port-approved bunkering and dispersion analyses for the actual vessel and supplier.
