Ship Electronic Inclinometer, Roll Motion, Cargo Shift & Lashing Risk Tool
Convert electronic-inclinometer roll data into an owner/operator risk picture without pretending the inclinometer is approved lashing software. Screen the 2026 carriage requirement, roll-rate and angular-acceleration severity, synchronous/parametric period proximity, motion-derived transverse cargo demand, friction and securing margin.

Representative Roll & Cargo Securing Screen
Simple uses a transparent sinusoidal-roll model. The motion-derived transverse acceleration adds the gravity component across the deck and tangential roll acceleration at the entered cargo CG height.

2026 SOLAS V/19.2.12 Applicability
Rule: qualifying containerships and bulk carriers of 3,000 GT and upwards constructed on or after 1 January 2026 require an electronic inclinometer, or other means, to determine, display and record roll motion. The stated occasional-bulk and general-cargo/container-deck exceptions are kept separate.

2026 Electronic Inclinometer Readiness
Navigation / cargo-risk screening only: this tool is not an approved stability computer, Cargo Securing Manual calculation, container-lashing solver, grain-heeling calculation, IMSBC cargo-shift assessment, second-generation intact-stability assessment, VDR type-approval test or ship-specific heavy-weather guidance. Actual securing loads depend on six-degree-of-freedom ship motions, phase relationships, vertical acceleration, elasticity, impact, lashing stiffness and approved class/flag methods.
2026 basis: SOLAS V/19.2.12 requires containerships and bulk carriers of 3,000 GT and upwards constructed on or after 1 January 2026 to carry an electronic inclinometer, or other means, to determine, display and record roll motion, with stated exceptions for occasional bulk carriage and general cargo ships carrying containers on deck. MSC.363(92) requires ±90° heel/roll-amplitude capability, a minimum 4-40 s roll-period range, angle/time accuracy of 5% of reading or ±1°/±1 s whichever is greater, analogue actual-heel indication through ±45°, at least 5 Hz instantaneous-heel output, recorded sensor position and main + emergency power. ISO 19697:2026 is the current international electronic-inclinometer standard. IMO adverse-weather guidance identifies synchronous rolling near encounter/roll ratio 1.0 and parametric-roll conditions around 1.0 and 0.5. The CSS Code notes that predominantly transverse accelerations create many cargo-securing problems.
