Mooring Winch Brake Rendering, Drum Layer & Brake Test Tool
Screen the mooring winch as the intended weak link. Compare the verified brake setting with the MEG4 Ship Design MBL basis, calculate drum-layer force loss, convert hydraulic jack pressure into brake torque and line pull, and manage periodic or post-maintenance testing across the mooring deck.

Single-Winch Quick Screen
Simple uses the MEG4 60% SDMBL first-layer render target. Synthetic WLL is 50% SDMBL; steel-wire WLL is 55%. The periodic test interval is user-entered from the vessel/company MSMP/SMS.

Keep Ship Design MBL as the brake-setting reference. A stronger replacement line is not a reason to increase brake rendering. For lines replaced under the current safe-mooring framework, the tool screens LDBF alignment at 100-105% of SDMBL.

MSMP / LMP / SIRE Readiness
Screening only: not a maker brake-test procedure, class approval, mooring analysis, winch structural calculation or authorization to adjust the brake. Use the approved MSMP/LMP, maker test kit and vessel procedure. An over-tight brake can defeat weak-link protection; an under-holding brake can render prematurely.
2026 reference basis: OCIMF MEG4 recommends primary brake rendering at 60% of Ship Design MBL on the first layer. MEG4 WLL is 50% SDMBL for synthetic lines and 55% for steel wire. SIRE 2.0 expects periodic testing and records, including testing after maintenance or evidence of premature slippage. The amended SOLAS II-1/3-8 safe-mooring requirements entered into force on 1 January 2024; MSC.1/Circ.1620 inspection/maintenance guidance applies to all ships. MSC.1/Circ.1175/Rev.1 applies to ships constructed from 2024 through 2027 and uses maximum brake holding load not less than 80% SDMBL as part of the winch-support structural design basis. MSC.1/Circ.1175/Rev.2 applies to ships constructed on or after 1 January 2028.
